What is your ice machine doing?

Pick what you see. You will get the usual causes, where a technician looks, and a quiz that starts from your answer.

What is your ice machine doing?

Scale on the evaporator, a dirty condenser, a water filter or valve that restricts flow, or a machine that is too warm where it sits. A refrigeration problem is less common and is tested, not guessed.

Where we look: evaporator, water filter and inlet valve, condenser, harvest cycle and temperatures.

Before you ask

Why is my ice machine making less ice?

Scale on the evaporator, a dirty condenser, a restricted water filter or valve, or a machine sitting in a hot room are the usual causes. A technician tests the machine to find which one it is.

Why is my ice machine leaking water?

Most leaks come from a clogged drain, a cracked trough or line, or a float or valve that lets water run. Turn off the water to the machine if the leak is large.

How often should an ice machine be cleaned?

Many makers recommend descaling and sanitizing at least twice a year, and more often with hard water or heavy use. Your machine’s manual has the schedule for its model.

Is it worth repairing an older ice machine?

Often it is. After the diagnosis you get the cause and a written quote, so you can compare the repair with replacing the machine.

Do you clean ice machines?

Yes. Ice machine cleaning has its own page, and it can be added to a maintenance plan.

Do you work on the refrigerator ice maker at home?

Yes, as part of home refrigerator repair, which has its own page.
